Indulgent Ironing

Have you heard about the latest craze ........? Indulgent ironing!!

Okay, so it may not be the latest craze, but as it's originator I am doing my damnest to turn the world around and spread the craze of indulgent ironing.

It is simple really, all you need is a great DVD, podcast, CD or radio program and all your ironing paraphernalia. Then, iron away.... mindlessly off in a meditative state.... enjoying your movie, music or lecture.

I am always on the lookout for good ironing material. Often I podcast episodes from ABC Radio National, or borrow DVD's from the town library ( at the moment I have Singing In The Rain). But.... my latest indulgence is to record episodes of 'I Dream of Jeannie' and 'Bewitched' and meditate away in the 1960s houses that are depicted in those shows.

Oh...... the luxury of it all............... a perfectly ironed hankie and some nostalgia.
Last week when I was out and about I was talking to a woman who brought up the fact that she detests ironing! I launched into a starry eyed lecture about how indulgent it truly was and how it is so lovely to have some relaxation time with your favourite show whilst making a perfect, crease free pillow case.....

..... she replied ' Good! I'll supply the DVD and you can do my ironing!'

Oh dear! There are clearly two groups of people in this world.......... the sane and the insane.
I will leave it to you to decide where I sit. lol

Good Luck with it all.

I have to say I am having difficulty with the indulgence side of your arguement simply because most people would be doing those things without the ironing now.....

Kind Regards

LOL - thanks Belinda.

Yes, I guess you're right. You have seen through it...... Indulgent ironing is really just a 'repackaging' of the fact that the ironing has to be done.... so why not watch something at the same time to distract yourself. lol.

But..... don't tell my brain, it thinks it is being indulgent!

I am one of the strange ones that actually doesn't mind ironing. I usually put on a chick flick that I wouldn't watch when hubby is around (as I invariably will be in tears at some point in the movie,LOL) and drift away while at the same time achieving something worthwhile. I find ironing a bit like therapy, I imagine I am ironing out the wrinkles(aka problems) in my life while I am ironing the perfect pillowcase. I know that is odd but it works for me. :)

I HATE IRONING !! But the fact of the matter is we both wear uniforms to work that require ironing, so I have been doing it for years, and try as I may to change my mindset, I still don't like it. Of all the household chores that can be 'out sourced' if I had the money to spare, I would out source the ironing. NOW THAT IS INDULGENCE!!!

You're not alone - I enjoy the ironing too. I use it as my thinking time or to listen to podcast (usually flylady or the dinner diva).

Oh my gosh I just ironed for the first time in MONTHS! Not quite Hubby's work shirts but upcycled fabric to make a table cubby house for my son. I had completely forgotten I could listen to my podcasts and make it an enjoyably productive time - just like my drives to and from work.
Thank you for the tip! (I hope it sticks!)
