Weird, huh? But my Mum knew how to make fantastic bread dough from scratch, and she really only did it for Easter and Christmas holidays. She'd leave the dough to rise in the hot cupboard overnight, and then after breakfast all the family would stand around the kitchen and shape bread rolls, getting flour everywhere and having a fabulous time (as we got older, we'd also drink sparkling wine which added to the silliness). Then it would be into the oven for baking the bread while we opened presents - then hot bread for lunch, hooray!

After lunch was usually taken up with deck quoits, backyard cricket or Scrabble if the weather wasn't good. On the rare occasions I do get home for Xmas, I'm always the first one saying; "Ooooh, are we gonna make bread? Where's the boardgames?!" It's that fun and togetherness that made it all such a great time - I barely remember the gifts!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8033398967737588792.post-81101113836132257082008-12-03T13:08:00.000+11:002008-12-03T13:08:00.000+11:00lovely post with some terrific ideas.A Christmas t...lovely post with some terrific ideas.A Christmas to be remembered for me was one down at the river with friends and family playing cricket in the water.... great fun, people and food :)

Suewhite_lillyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09706330207967150054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8033398967737588792.post-28408296395619273192008-12-03T07:55:00.000+11:002008-12-03T07:55:00.000+11:00I heard you on the radio this morning and thought ...I heard you on the radio this morning and thought I might have a look at your blog.
